Got picked up at 10h30 yesterday by Jen (The Estate Agent) and started the hunt. Headed north outside the city (11 kilometers) to be exact and started the viewing schedule. One thing that is for sure is this is going to be a challenge. You have two choices. Live in the city in condo's or outside the city in "landed" houses.
Let my quickly define "landed" house. Not anything like back home. Singapore does not have big land available, so houses are on small plots and typically three stories high. Not that the houses are small, infact, I saw some yesterday were 4 - 6 bedrooms. The trip was interesting and informative with two houses on the shortlist. All houses are connected to either one other house or squashed between two others. Majority properties come standard with washing machine, dryer, microwave, curtains, full airconditioning and some with TV's in every room. Wow. What will I do with the stuff we shipped????
We will continue the hunt on Wednesday and look at some "Cluster" properties. Jen was very concerned that we want to live so "far" from the city and after some explanation regarding JHB and its traffic problems she got the message. 11 Kilometers and 10-15 mintues travel will be a breez for any South African.
